Grant Opportunities
  • Mentoring - Due June 20 - Target for next year with structure guidance Big Brothers and Sisters and Friends.  Engage Ministries, Businesses, Fraternal Organizations in Active Mentoring Interest or solicit expansion of existing organization mentoring to be community wide.  Involvement to also include organizations such as CLARRY, Youth Outreach (Claremont), and CARES who have at risk youth involvement.

Specifically: Find out what in house mentoring programs are there and to educate the community organizations and businesses on the community benefits of the mentoring and propose how they could be involved in this community mentoring network (structure, coordination, conveying to membership/employees, and setting up varying “levels” of mentorship). 

 

  • Substance Abuse Treatment Grant - Due April 18th Provides for additional treatement infrastructure where gap is identified.  Non-Profits eligible.  Must include collaboration with licensed provider with at least two years history. $250,000 - $400,000. Seeking Interest for Collaboration.

 

Counselor, Educator, Coordinator, Referrals Submitted by Newport and Fall Mountain February 19th

 $750,000 for an LEA with fewer than 5,000 students.An eligible applicant is a local educational agency (LEA) or a consortium of LEAs  that partner with their local public mental health, law enforcement, and juvenile justice agencies to develop and submit a community-specific SS/HS comprehensive plan that addresses the following five elements:

·         Element One: Safe School Environments and Violence Prevention Activities.

·         Element Two: Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Prevention Activities.

·         Element Three: Student Behavioral, Social, and Emotional Supports.

·         Element Four: Mental Health Services.

·         Element Five: Early Childhood Social and Emotional Learning Programs.

  • SSHS **Round 2 Funding*** due June 30, 2008

    Funds May be Used for the Following Authorized Activities:

    Safe and Drug-Free Schools funds may be used within these targeted activity areas provided that they are consistent with the Principles of Effectiveness. Authorized activities include:

    1. • age appropriate and developmentally based activities that teach students about the dangers of emerging drugs
    2. • family and/or community activities designed to set clear expectations against use of illegal substances and appropriate consequences for such behaviors
    3. • dissemination of drug prevention information to schools or communities to be served
    4. • professional development and training for school personnel, parents, and/or community members in mentoring, prevention education, early identification, intervention, and referral services
    5. • community-wide planning and activities to reduce illegal drug use

    LEAs may use funds:

    1. • to contract for assistance with data collection, analysis, and development of an action plan
    2. • to pay teacher stipends for work outside of contractual obligation to participate in the crafting of an action plan

    NOTE: Activities may take place June 30, 2008 through September 30, 2008.

    Collaboration with local agencies, Community Prevention Coalition Centers and Department of Health and Human Services initiatives is encouraged.

     IV is pleased to provide the opportunity for School Districts, Charter Schools, and the Joint Maintenance Agreement to apply for redistributed funding. This funding must be obligated and disbursed by September 30, 2008. Applications are due to the DOE by June 30, 2008, 4:30 PM - postmarks or faxes will not be accepted.

  • SSHS Prescription Drugs and Sucide Prevention Due May 25th -

    Purpose

    The purpose of this grant application is to redistribute funds from the 2006-2007 Safe and Drug-Free Schools Grant to address priority areas of Rx/OTC drugs (prescription and over the counter drugs) and suicide prevention.

     Eligibility

    Local education agencies (LEAs), Charter Schools, and the Joint Maintenance Agreement are eligible to apply for these funds.

     

    PRIORITY AREA #1    Rx/OTC Drugs 

    • gather and analyze data regarding the incidents of illegal use of Rx/OTC drugs in the schools and community and
    • develop local action plans to include specific activities, expected outcomes and timelines for example:
    • Professional development and training for school personnel, parents, and/or community members in mentoring, prevention education, early identification, intervention, and referral services, Age appropriate and developmentally based activities that teach students about the dangers of emerging drugs, Professional development and training for school personnel, parents, and/or community members in mentoring, prevention education, early identification, intervention, and referral services.  This would have been a good small scale grant to implement, but received notification with one week remaining.
